Quite simply, I don't have insurance and want to want to delcare it as sorn - however if I do this will I still be able to keep it on a public road?

No, you will get in to trouble if you do

Nope. Even if you're not moving it. On a driveway then fine.

It's killing me having mine SORNed as I wait to turn 18, it just stares at me every morning as I walk in the cold D:

You can't keep your car on a public road if it has no insurance either.

If it is declated as sorn, or it isnt insured, then you cant keep it on a public road.
You would have to keep it on your drive or something.

You can, just don't get caught.

Pretty sure the exception to the rule is if you dont have a garage or a driveway to keep it on. If it really is still illegal then I would take the number plates off until you get it back on the road legally.

Pointless as they can just check the VIN.

Either way if you have a car SORN'd or uninsured, it has to be on private land.

When I bought my car it was SORNed and it was kept in a public car park outside their house.

Something or SORN? What's that guy on about.

Scrolled past a few more posts before I got this

With reguards to Lao, there is no exception and taking plates off a car will only serve to attract attention.

So what options do you have to sorn a car but dont have a driveway or any private land you could park the car on? Something dont seem right.

Honestly, I don't know but the point of a SORN is the "OR" part - you can't declare a SORN on a car then keep it on the road.

Have to pay for the tax and insurance then unfortunately. Or rent a driveway space from someone

They had no where else to keep it- there was a little car park type thing (Space for about 6 cars) right outside their house so that is the only place they could have put it (Unless they drove it up a hill, through a gate into their front garden)

Guys, I have always wondered, if a car is declared SORN, would it be ok to park and leave the car on a driveway?

...and what would happen if the car was parked on a driveway owned by the local authority? Would it be considered a 'public road' for the purposes of SORN?
